Can’t throw up??

Recommended Posts

My mother in law is getting ready to have surgery and mentioned not being able to throw up, ever again, even if she gets sick. I’m 10 months post op, and went through months of pre-op education with Kaiser and I have never heard this?! I’ve also thrown up twice since surgery.... so, is this a thing for people?

It’s practically impossible to throw up with a lapband, I wouldn’t have thought the same was true with sleeve or bypass.

She said it has something to do with the stomach muscles.

I'm 6 months post bypass. I've barfed, so it is possible.

I threw up once about 3 weeks out and it was not "that bad." Now, although I get horribly nauseated at times, I cannot throw up. I had RNY about 13months ago.

I've not heard that. I've thrown up the "foamies" with the sleeve when I eat a food I can't tolerate.

I am one month postop sleeve and I cannot throw up. I actually tried yesterday after getting nauseated by a new food I introduced. I am only able to dry heave which is a little unnerving

Probably TMI...but I feel I'm among friends here.

With the sleeve, you don't create as much bile. You can still throw up, it's just different. I had food poisoning and it was hard and different, but I was able to throw up. Instead of a liquid, I had more of a foam. It seemed to take a lot more out of me physically. My entire body hurt the next day.

I have yet to throw up since I have had my sleeve, but I never really threw up anyway. I know that people with they bypass can not throw up. I've listened to my wife do the dry heaves more than once LOL! And she had the bypass.

Well, I certainly can throw up- and have done it A LOTTTTTTTT....ugh. But it isn't as bad as I thought it might be. Hopefully I am about to turn a corner and won't be doing it much more if at all!

I threw up about 2 months out, first time trying fish after the surgery, i felt way better after I did, it wasn’t hard at all and I didn’t have pain after. I knew it took me almost 9 months before I could burp properly though.

She may have gastroparesis. It affects the stomach walls.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
