Day 3 of Pre-op diet. 11 more to go.

Recommended Posts

It's Day 3 of my pre-op diet, of 7 servings of Optifast. I have found the following: The Peanut Butter bar sucks. Everything else is okay, but I find myself craving three things. I'm craving something crunchy. I'm craving something salty. And I'm craving something a bit more meat heavy.

I'll deal with it, and I'm finding myself even looking forward to the Clear Liquids day before the surgery. Because then I can have some beef broth. I want beef broth.

Anyone else have cravings on their pre-op, and how did you deal with them?

It’s not easy to deal with cravings and it’s not something that went away magically after surgery. The way I dealt with it pre op is the same way I’m dealing with it now. First thinking about how far I’ve come already by staying committed (even when that was just into the 2nd hour pre op😂) and realizing doing what I always have had only gotten me where I was at.
You can do this! It’s hard but nothing worth it is easy. And you ARE worth it . Hang in there

My biggest craving was salt. Everything we got was sweet. But we were allowed to have low sodium broth a couple of times a day. So I picked some up and this brand was very serious about it being low sodium. I added salt to it to make it taste like something. I hated sweet things while I was on my pre-op for the four days before having to stop. I never craved any other foods though. I was so full from the shakes, bars and milk we were allowed that eating anything I missed wasn't really something I wanted.

My pre-op diet was just 1500 calorie restricted and limit fats, so I could have pretty much anything. I didn't mind the liquid diet 2 weeks post-op as it was easy to make choices, but I was ready to some texture and crunch at the end.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
