Congratulations on making it to Surgery Eve! I remember I too was so excited I could hardly eat anything before going NPO. Speaking of NPO, I will be joining you later this evening, I have an Endoscopy😷 scheduled tomorrow MORNING, this is either my 12th or 13th lifetime, and don't laugh, but before each one I have a few chilly toes if not a whole cold feet. I have had poor and slow healing from my RNY, a stricture showed up only a few weeks in. Have had gastritis, a structured stoma and ulcerations in my jejunem, the portion of my small intestine the pouch now connects with. Oh I am a rarity, there are only a few others on Bariatric Pal and mine has been the longest duration, it has been 9 months since my surgery, usually only takes a short while to be repaired, but ME I just got to be SPECIAL! So I am hoping there will be a noticable improvement, but I am not so certain. Still having my ulceration pains. But I promise, since my procedure will be mid- morning to🙏 pray for you that all will go well. It Will distract me from brooding about myself and my troubles.👈😛👉

Ok. So I have to be to the hospital in 11 hrs. I have not packed my bag (procrastinate much?) The nerves have been activated!! liquid diet today, and I am not even hungry. Just excited to alleviate the constant knee pain.

I'm totally going to be in the same boat, @onepreciousk . Hope your surgery went smooth today and that you're not in a lot of pain. I can't wait for the reduction in constant knee pain, too! NSV!

Well the Bruins are feeling a little " Blue" after the Game 7 loss tonight. That said I WILL CONTINUE to pray🙏 for PAPI, he was a great player but the times I saw him interviewed he was. a Total Gentleman, and that is a rarity among Sports Figures. I hope he will get stronger then heal for I believe God still has plans for him.

Gah. Pre-op diet is kicking my butt.

I've been nauseous all day. I've only managed to get one Protein Shake and 2 cups of broth down. I threw up 2 more Protein Shakes.

I really hope tomorrow is a better day.

Why are u having issues with Protein Shakes?

maybe it’s the kind, I had to try like 4 kinds, I couldn’t use ones with the fake sugar in it. I attached the one I use.

how much longer till surgery cause I’m worried if you having issues now, you’ll be even worse after with Naseau.

I had and still have at times Naseau issues post op.

post op about 3 weeks in, i wails have issues if needed to eat, I would be Nauseous. I learned I needed to eat. The worst was the morning. Going 10 hours or so with no food, waking up, a normal person would have food digesting but with sleeve, we have nothing in there but gastric juices. So I woke up and have a few crackers, mornings still stink, but better as time went on,

get a hold of this before you have the surgery

good luck

It's almost certainly the shakes, but my doctor doesn't allow substitutions, in general.

I'm only allowed to use HPMR Bariatric Advantage shakes.

They're awful. I hold my nose and do my best to get them down, but it's not working that great.

I'm going to call them first thing in the morning and see if they can help me!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
