Getting ready for DS......

Recommended Posts

I am only a few days away from surgery. I am so confused with what I can and cannot eat the first 2 weeks - some say Jello is okay, some say no. I am starving on my liquid diet right now. From all of you who have had this already, do the hunger and cravings really go away? I need desperately to lose the weight, and this is my last hurrah. I am 60 yrs old and have been on so many diets, including lap band, that I am successful with at first and then gain the weight back. Is this going to feel any differently? I know it is is up to me, but I wanted to know really how much you think the surgery works on these items. Thx so much

You'll do great after you get the DS. It's the best of both the sleeve and bypass. You will loose the physical hunger (maybe not head hunger) and also have the extra added benefit of malabsorption. 60 years old is an awesome time to add years on to your life. This surgery you are getting is the major league WLS and you will feel nothing like you do now post surgery. Be determined to get healthy and be around for the ones that love you and the ones you love to torment till you're 100. ;)

On my first 2 days, I was on a clear liquid diet, and truthfully had to force my self to ensure I took in enough fluids. You will likely feel the same. I was not the least bit hungry. After moving on to a full liquid diet, I continued to conscientiously focus on ensure I met my Protein intake goals and Fluid intake as I still have no appetite. I mostly drank Premier Protein shakes (30 grams protein) and (Isopure drinks (20 grams protein). I've found it helpful to sometimes microwave 1/2 a shake and drink it like cocoa. I don't do a whole one though because it takes me 2 hours to drink 1/2. I've had a couple of sugar free jellos and popsicles are my new favorite. I journal every thing to track my intake of protein and liquids. You'll find your groove. Good luck

As long as you follow the protocols (especially for the first 18 months when your losing window is the greatest) it will work. I'm almost 14 years out and it's certainly worked for me.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I had the surgery this past Monday and am doing well. I guess my head hunger is in full swing, but I am not giving in. Looking forward to seeing my great results. God bless you all

Trish

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
