What do I bring to the hospital?

Recommended Posts

I used slippers, a phone charger, and chapstick while I was in the hospital. That was pretty much it. My hospital provided some of the other things I used, like a toothbrush. I'm not sure how much a handheld massager would help with gas—the best thing. you can do for gas is walking.

What surgery are you having? My Dr. said I will probably go home the same day so I haven't put much thought into it but definitely bringing slippers and sweatpants! Chapstick is a good one!

Thank you! I am getting VSG so should be in there just a day. Yeah wasn’t sure about the massager either I know walking will be my friend!

Sweatpants are definitely a good idea, I forgot that I brought and used those. Dry mouth spray, too.

i brought slippers, sweatpants, phone and phone charger. the hospital provided toothbrush and tooth paste. they gave me non slip socks and a gown. but a phone and charger would be the main thing. oh your id, credit card to pay for it, and insurance card.

I packed pretty light - pj bottoms and t-shirt, pair of socks, 2 pairs of underwear (my period was expected the day of surgery). Phone, charger and Kindle. Chapstick, deodourant, and breath spray. No money or jewellery.

Used the hospital's gown and treaded socks - just put my pj bottoms under the gown. The hospital provided toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, towels. I was expecting them to provide Shampoo and conditioner and they didn't. Had to wash my hair with bar soap, but I was past caring.

I was in for about 36 hrs.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
