Hi guys hope your all well. I have a question for you well experienced banders. Do you have times ( I’m mean last for days) when you feel a lump in your throat. Not at the band site literally at the back of your mouth.

Ive had this a couple times before and it righted itself with in a day but I haven’t had a meal in 4 days I’ve tried to have Soup but threw it back up all with this lump feeling in my throat.

ive lost approx 26kgs maybe more since weigh in, so loving that fact Just wondering if anyone has had this and what your experience is with it and what it is.

Cheers

Yes.

If you have eaten too much or if something is stuck the sensation is generally in the throat , not where the band is. How far post op are you? Are you able to get Water in? If not you need to go to ER NOW as after 4 days you will be severely dehydrated and that is dangerous.

Have you tried sucking crushed ice. That was always my go to method when something was badly stuck. The ice helps to reduce swelling which may in turn enable the blockage to move.

BHi elcee

thanks for your reply.

I’m 7 months since band. I’ve had this a couple times before but the lump in the throa feeling was gone with in a day. I am getting Water through but feel it going past this lump feeling. I’m not sure why I have it. I literally haven’t eaten anything solid since op. I’m living on Soup and custard type stuff still.

i had been over filled previously a few months ago when I couldn’t get anything including wTer where I did have to go to er and had 3 cc’s taken out at that point and that settled everything at that point. Lots of swelling from throwing up had shut everything up.

ive had the pain at the band feeling when stuck I know that one too well but up in the throat at back of mouth has me stumped.

ill try your ice idea hopefully it helps 😊

Ps. Is this a problem all the time, I have considered revising to sleeve if I’m having stupid issues with the band.

Why haven’t you had solids yet? Band is designed to be most effective at controlling hunger when you eat solid foods especially Protein.

If you can’t eat solids you are too tight and need an unfill.Too tight doesn’t mean better or quicker weight loss it actually slows it down as slider foods are easy too eat too much of, they are unsatisfying and they are often high calorie

I’ve tried solids, jelly is the best I’ve had and some bits of ham or very soft Pasta is the best I can get down but doesn’t seem to matter how slow I eat them or how much I chew with them I end up sick. I guess I’m now to scared to try them now. I have discussed it with nutritionist and my surgeon and they both are thinking I’m eating it to quick or not chewed enough. Then say go back to soft or liquids again. And start the process again

im seeing surgeon again in 3 weeks, and reviewing this. At my last visit he was surprised how much I had lost. Especially Xmas time. I had told him I’m living on Soups over cooked noodles and puréed mince and puréed veggies (sometimes) coz I’m having trouble with everything else. I don’t eat much with what I eat I’m lucky if I get a full cup of Soup down, and only a few spoonfuls of anything I can’t eat anymore, which is obviously working but I am still hungry.

hes happy I’m not to tight as I’m not up where I was when I got sick and went to er....

i haven’t asked about the lump in throat feeling as I have not had it when visiting him. I haven’t had a fill in a while and he’s not planning to.

i guess I’m just not sure what the lump feeling is and asking if anyone has had it in there experience and what they found it was and how to help. Probably stressing over nothing

There were times when I was banded where I felt like I had a constant lump in the back of my throat. It wasn't related to what types of food or how much I ate. It had no rhyme or reason to time of day. I would always joke that it felt like I had an alien in my chest ready to pop out!

My doctor said it had something to do with GERD, like esophagitis or something. I had little or no heartburn, only this weird lump feeling.

S@ssen@ch thanks for your reply. Did anything help you? Did it eventually go away or did you find the reason for it. Or are you still putting up with it.

i don’t have any reflux just like you said this lump in my throat feeling. Never had reflux or this before the op so all new to me.

Im glad someone has experienced the same and made sense of what I was saying.

sorry for all the questions

Meez, I had my band removed. That largely resolved the issue although I was subject to occasional flare-ups of GERD afterward.

I also never had reflux before the band. The band gave me such severe reflux that I sat sitting up for nearly 5 years! This was not heartburn and I never actually felt food/stomach contents coming up into my esophagus/throat. When I laid down, I would get a pressure in my chest. It gave me nearly chronic esophagitis where I had a metallic taste in my mouth and would get this lump feeling.

I would urge you to contact your doctor, notify them of your symptoms and ask questions to hopefully get resolution.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
