Am I eating right?

Recommended Posts

I am now exactly 1 month post-op (vsg)and slowly trying new foods. I pay attention to the nutritional information on all of my foods, trying to ensure I'm eating well. I look for foods high in Protein, low in fat, and even lower in carbs. I document EVERYTHING in Myfitness Pal and I'm steady around 480-525 calories per day; which I'm assuming is okay with this new, much smaller pouch(?) I wait 30 minutes after my last drink before I eat and I then wait 30 mins after eating to drink again. I'm doing well with my water; staying around 70oz daily. Still, I constantly worry: Am I eating right?

Why?
Bc I'm brand new at this. My Doctor never gave me much in terms of how I should eat. I've basically relied on google and pinterest to tell me what to do.

I mean why are you worried specifically? Anything going wrong? Any issues?

Oh! Lol. I feel like I'm hungry often. I eat 3 meals a day but then I snack 2 or 3 times too. I'm not sure if I'm eating too many calories either. Is there a number I should try to stay around?

I get why you are worried I am too. Not sure what I should be eating or how much. I am also snacking a couple times a day. I think it's cause our stomachs are so much smaller that once we are full it takes a little bit for everything to digest then we get hungry again. I'm eating well though on my own and getting the Protein I need through food. I'm staying away from fatty foods. I did have a couple pieces of chocolate though to see if I could handle them and I could. I had chicken salad today for lunch and ate a little bit of it and I was sooo full! It's weird cause tuna I can eat more of it.

I had some crab salad today and was only able to get about 3 tablespoons down and I felt full. About 2 hours later I was hungry again. I try drinking Water each time I feel hungry, just to be sure it's actually hunger. If I'm still hungry within 15mins of drinking the water then I will wait another 15 and eat something. I just hope I'm doing it all right! I'm so scared of "stretching the pouch" or eating something that will set me up for failure just because it goes down easy or feels good on my stomach. I'm sure I'm not the only one worried about all this or stressing when there's nothing saying I'm doing it wrong.

Got it! Denser drier Proteins will keep hunger at bay for longer, higher Carbs counts, especially refined simple carbs, tend to spark hunger in people when it didn't exist prior. Foods that are easy to eat and go down easier (often called sliders) whether healthy choices or not will leave you hungry sooner. When planning your meals keep that info in mind.

Google and Pinterest are wonderful places for reference but bug your team for more information when you feel lost.

Do you have a NUT? Ask for a few sample meal plans.

Also this thread can give you a glimpse at how others are eating

Thank you so much! I do have a NUT but I haven't seen her post-op yet and I won't see her until I'm almost 60 days post-op. :-(

Thank you so much for the link and for being so helpful!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
