You will do great! I had my sleeve done in Dec 2011, and had lots of issues with regurgitation and GERD that finally became unmanageable. I just had my revision to RNY (along with a whole lot of hiatal hernia repair and other cleanup) on Dec 12, 2018. It seems so much easier this time around. I decided it's like childbirth - you're terrified through the first one, but when the second one comes along, it's like, I got this....

Wow. We have similar situations/histories. My sleeve was in 2015. My stomach is folded over, causing a stricture and I have a hiatal hernia. I'm not really nervous. I'm kind of excited, to be honest.

How long were you in the hospital? I'm glad to hear your recovery is easier this time around.

I had my bypass on the 21st as well! I did have a hernia that I didn’t know of that was corrected while I was under.

I believe you should be okay. My approval was done in less than 2 weeks.

I did an accelerated bariatric program just so they could teach me how to eat and that I have all the knowledge I need for gastric bypass. The surgery is 100% for the GERD and hernia repair. I’m in Illinois and they’re saying BCBS is taking up to 8 weeks!!

I have Aetna open access.

Funny how insurances vary in their outlook, some are easy to work with, others deny everything they possibly can. And some you have to stifle the urge to strangle each and every one of them!👼or👹

It is very strange. Everyone I talked to on BariatricPal has said once their doctor put in “medically necessary” the insurance providers approved. My insurance coordinator said once they see bariatric surgery they default under the rules of their bariatric requirements even though the revision isn’t for weight loss but GERD

Of course hernia repair is " Medically necessary!" do they honestly think it is a vanity or cosmetic Procedure? Our premiums in but no money and approval coming, out. I wish insurance companies were not a profit- making entity, they should be merely a clearinghouse for us all, not playing with our lives.! Universal health care isn't perfect but it would remove the stingers from these wasps of finance once and for all!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
