Thinking about food all the time

Recommended Posts

At what point are you at? Have you started your official pre-op diet?

In general, yes it is normal for some, particularly if you keep telling yourself 'stop thinking about food or don't think about food'...your brain hears food, and that is all it thinks about. Think positively instead for instance, I will drink all my fluids today, I will eat all my protein..

And when you get there, eat dark meat chicken, its higher in Iron, will help your body produce hemoglobin, healthy hemoglobin leads to less fatigue.

I can't stop thinking about food. My next meal, when I can eat... Is this normal?

If you are not drinking enough Water or eating enough Protein, you may be hungry. If you are drinking and eating enough, it may be head hunger. I actually went to a psychologist to help learn how to deal with my head hunger and cravings. I highly suggest having a support system. After WLS we need to adjust our relationship with food. Best of luck to you.

This too shall pass. Totes norm. Drink lots of water--get AALLLLL your Fluid in! And get your Protein in. It's a combo of real hunger and head hunger.

I was like this for awhile. I don't know if you're experience is the same as mine, but mine wasn't necessarily anticipation/excitement about eating or hunger. It was more about anxiety about what I could eat and would I be able to get enough Protein. So I was thinking about food all the time trying to fit the puzzle pieces together. Now I have several meals that have roughly the same amount of protein. That way, I can just grab one of those meals and eat. It is my way of meal planning without having to plan every meal a week in advance. It has taken my anxiety about what I can eat and how I can get in my protein.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
