I guess it just depends. I took 2 weeks off but I only needed a week. The two weeks helped with getting my meals prepared and I wasn't hurting when I went back to work.

Thanks! Maybe I'll be safer if I schedule during the mid winter break rather than rushing the surgery. If I need more time to recover then I could always take a few days after that week.

Your having major surgery. I don't believe there is a doctor anywhere that would release you to return to work the next day. You definately need time off to heal. The amount of time depends on which surgery your having, your age, your health, your financial situation ect. Read the previous threads on this topic and take your doctors advise.

I am a teacher too, but I teach virtually. I had surgery Monday, got home Tuesday, and was back to work on Wednesday. If I had been in the brick and mortar though, there is no way. I would have needed at least 2 weeks off.

I'm a teacher. I took 2 weeks. I might have been able to manage with one, but it would have been very hard. The pain was mostly gone after a week but I was tired and didn't really feel myself. Teachers are always on their feet and the days are long. Take 2 weeks if you can. Don't even consider going back with less than a week off.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
