3 days post op and fizzy stomach

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am 3 day post op. I have been trying to take in my fluids with not much success. Whenever I sip my Fluid I can feel it run down my throat and into my stomach. As soon as it hits my stomach it feels like a golf ball is stuck right above my stomach, Then I get strange noises from my stomach and it begins to fizz like when you open a coke, Next the fluid I just sipped comes back up midway. I have to keep swallowing to get it to go down. I can only do 2 sips in 30 mins, Also my heart has been having lots of palpatations. So much that its wakes out of sleep. Has anyone else been through this?? My Dr and nurse looked at me crazy when I told them this.

Thanks for reading and happy losing

Wow! You described EXACTLY the feeling I had running down my throat etc to the tee! I was concerned I had a leak so I’ve been taking temp regularly. If your techs cardia you might want to get check ASAP. Call your doctor and tell him tachy and check you temp. The only difference is I can sip fine and goes down but I feel every inch of it. Today is day 4 for me and I don’t feel it as much. Our stomachs are healing so we will feel and hear unusual obsure things going on.  It was a relief to see someone had this same description. But seriously thinks to watch for are tachy and fever. I’m down 20 pounds I’m in awe and so excited!! Hopefully tomorrow it will be less noticeable swallowing as it did for me. Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
