Tight pouch days

Recommended Posts

Some days Water and Protein Shakes go down fine. Other days it’s a struggle. This am even small sips of my Protein Shake are making me gag and it’s taken me almost an hour to get down half. Is this normal?

I would love to hear an answer for this as i am only 4 days post op and still learning. Most of the time for me i feel like my liquid is passing something on the way down my throat LOL.. Half the time i think its a gas bubble as a few seconds later here comes a burp.

Sure it's normal. Switch things up. Switch up temps. Experiment. Get an action plan of "hacks" for those days. It's an evolution of continual experimentation. If all you can handle is Water for that day, then fully hydrate and try a different "thinner" Protein for that day.

I kept Isopure clear on hand and diluted it by 50% with plain water. Took longer to get my protein in, but I would still get the minimum in on those days. I liked the Green Tea, Grape, and fruit Punch flavors the best. I also used Premier Protein Clear (Fruit Punch and Orange Mango). I'd also dilute the fruit punch flavor with water and would dilute the Orange Mango with tea and have it chilled or room temp.

You can also make popsicles with them or make slushies, or have them room temp, or even warm in tea.

Thin your thick Protein Drinks with decaff coffee or tea--make frappacinos, have them iced or warm...whatevs. :) Have warm broth with a spoon of unflavored protein isolate in it.

broth seems to always go down easy for me. Almost too easy. I love the slush idea. Thanks!

Then add unflavored Protein Powder to your broth. I use the Isopure unflavored (think you can get it at GNC)? I mix it into a slurry with just a bit of broth and do that when it's cold. Then stir out the slurry with added broth. Then I warm it just to about 150 degrees and drink it tepid. If it gets too hot it will curdle. I think it curdles somewhere around 160? But I can't remember--cuz I don't do that any more. I just get my Protein from food. And broth is broth. :D

Hope that helps!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
