Two Weeks Post Op

Recommended Posts

So Wednesday marks a full 2 weeks since surgery. Per my surgeon, I can’t have soft or puréed foods until the 15th.. but I want to eat! I just want to chew something but can only have broths and Protein Shakes. Did any one else experience this? Any suggestions?

Did the Dr. say why you have to wait another week? The 15th is next Thursday. Were you having issues holding down what you are drinking also, are you reaching your Protein and Water goals? He may want to make sure you are reaching your first set of goals before you move on to the next stage.

I haven’t had any complications... it’s the phases they follow when I attended the classes. I have to drink 2-4 8 oz Protein Shakes a day plus work toward 64 oz of Water or sugar free beverages. I’m doing pretty good with it. They just added Protein shakes last Thursday. I’m just struggling to eating anything. Like I just want something...

I can totally relate to this. However my surgeon said to take it slow and I would know when I could move to the "mushie/pureed" stage. Well. I thought I was good to go because like you I wanted to chew something SO badly. But no, My stomach was not ready. Take it slow. I am almost 2 weeks post op and I've had some pureed foods but mostly sticking to yogurt and broth still. Everything else is hard to get down and hurts. Good luck!!!!!

I can relate big time. We are on the same timeline, my DR advises that i do two week full liquid. Its tough drinking broth, Protein Shakes and greek yogurt on a cycle. I am looking forward to Wednesday this week, as i move onto the puree.
To keep me focused I remember why I choose surgery as a weight loss option, also the sure knowledge that I am eliminating so many health ailments. I know it’s tough but hang in there. This too shall pass. Good luck on your journey.

Thank you! I’m happy to hear some one at the same spot as me! I can’t have yogurt yet that I have been told just Clear Liquids, broth and sf Jello. Broth and jello is like my treats or dinner then I have Protein Shakes. I’m still struggling by happy to have one week left til puréed!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
