They called my work!!!! D:

Recommended Posts

My HR person called me across the room and said (in an almost confused voice?) that Oregon Bariatric was on the phone for me on line 1!!!!

I was totally embarrassed and now I feel aweful. I don't know who heard.... And I feel all suspicious and paranoid and upset. I can't concentrate on work.

((I asked them to call my cell, they said they did but couldn't get through, come to find out my phone was out of batteries.))

Oh no! That is such a HIPPA violation...especially sad coming from HR!!! You have every right to be upset and to submit a formal complaint. Oregon Bariatric was in the wrong for disclosing who they were and so was your HR colleague who yelled across the room.

That's f*cked up. I would be livid at your doctor's office and your HR person.

@Medowsweet

Oh no!!

Of all people that did this - coming from HR - whole situation is terrible

If HR person asked who is calling? Bariatric Center should have said that

a doctors office was calling. Or take their phone # and you will call back.

If Bariatric center volunteered who they were - that was not right!!

obviously this was not handled well

good luck w/surgery

I would be really annoyed. Unfortunately now it’s out you can’t put it back in. Having WLS isn’t something we should have to feel embarrassed about. The more open we become the easier and more normal it will eventually become.

Aw man! That bites big green ones!!!!! ((hugs))

So was the HR person at least "discreet" about it? Or were there a butt load of peeps hangin?

I would be LIVID if this happened to me and I didn’t want my coworkers to know!!! What did you say to the HR person! And definitely your doctor’s office should not have said where they were calling from. I’m so sorry this happened to you! 😰

I have been heavy since early childhood. I had to change elementary schools 4 times due to bullying.

It's a touchy subject in general... You know

I don't mind telling friends one on one one at a time but this particular issue is private and tied to a lot of old pain and trama...

Also there is a stigma of WLS that goes something like this: you obviously lack will power and can't stick to a diet so you carve up your body cuz you just can't say no to the Twinkies.

One on one I can set them strait or explain the truth before I tell them... Ideally they'll see me eating salad and hiking and lifting weights so they KNOW I am not trying to cheat or have no will power BEFORE I tell them.

I didn't say ANYTHING. I didn't wanna look at or interact with her (but more from embarrassment then anger)

That's bullsht! If I were in your situation I'd go back to that HR person and their boss and tell them that was a HIPPA violation and you are considering reporting it. Same with the Bariatric office. I'd be so pissed!!!

This is so maddening. I would never let this go if it were me. Major violation. I'm very angry for you. They could and should have left a message. Wtf!!??

I want to have a good relationship with my coworkers and not come accross as an angry trouble maker

At least HR didn't broadcast that you had a big box of Poo-Pourri waiting for you in the mailroom.:)

Seriously, very unprofessional. Was this the HR person's first day on the job? Maybe it'll be her last soon... if she keeps violating HIPPA.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
