5th Day Post-Op and always feeling full?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

5th day after surgery but only my second day on Clear Liquids as I had a lot of complications after surgery - it was rough, I have to be honest.

My doctor gave me the goal of at least 40 ounces of liquids to start and I'm slowly trying to get through it but is it normal to always feel full and bloated? Even just on clear liquids?

I'm currently drink broth, juice and Water for now (mixed with some medication) and will start on full liquids (shakes and soups) soon but just wanted to ask if this full feeling eventually goes away? or do you feel this all day? or is it because my stomach is still swollen and healing? Even if I'm not drinking I still feel full.

I take small sips and usually try to finish about 200 ml every hour- am I drinking too much too soon?

Thank you!

I felt full a lot right after the surgery. It took me a while to drink my Protein and my Water, but I made myself get it in .

Okay- glad to know I'm not the only. I'm scared I'm stretching it out this soon.

Thank you :)

Yes, very normal. I just tried to survive and get used to my be limited ability to eat. It seems shocking to survive and still have energy on so little food. I didn't have energy for awhile after surgery. I was on clear liquids two weeks post surgery and it was a struggle to get anything down. Seven years later I can drink tons of liquid at a time and feel fine. That took a months. I still never really get hungry, but do get full and uncomfortable very quickly. At this point I can eat like an egg and a sausage, anymore and I feel uncomfortable. I think I have a lot more restriction than most however. Hang in there it gets better, just take care of yourself and rest. Cheers. It's not easy at first but it gets way better and you'll love your new life.

Thank you so much- that's quite a relief. I've always been a Water drinker all my life and I was scared I won't get back to that point anymore.

A lot to adjust for me a from now on but I'm excited.

And so awesome to hear that you've been on the sleeve for 7 years- it's an inspiration.

Thank you again :)

I had a problem with plain Water right after surgery. To be honest I still don't love the way it sits in my sleeve. I found tropical punch flavored Protein water that changed my life. Tasted great kinda like Crystal light and gave me the protein I needed. It'll get much better, some days you'll hate it and most days you'll realize it wad the best thing you could have ever done for yourself. You've got this. The first year was the most dynamic and exciting for me, enjoy the ride.

Thank you! I'm still trying to experiment with liquids but I do get the weird sensation with water compared to me drinking juice- so maybe water doesn't sit well on my sleeve as well.

I'll look out for protein water- that might do the trick and get in some extra protein there as well.

Thank you so much! :)

Try different temperatures of Water or different brands of bottled water.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
