For the marijuana users (medicinal or recreational) out there...how long after surgery did you smoke or ingest weed? Did you go with edibles instead? What has been your experience with marijuana use post-surgery?

*Not interested in responses on legalization/why it’s bad blah blah blah etc.*

I'm on Dronabinal / marinol for sleep issues, I was taking it the day I got home from surgery.

SWIM was smoking within a week or so of surgery, it was reported that pain and swelling was reduced and healing times seemed to be increased. It was noted that pain from coughing was controlled with pressing into the main incision line, either with the palm of the hand or a pillow. No negative side effects were noted, "munchies" were not an issue as per the user.

i smoked a week post op and i was fine but i vaped it so it was a bit easier. i haven’t had edibles yet cause i’m too nervous to try and i’m not sure how much i’d eat/if it’ll hit me different. i say do whatever feels comfortable, if you feel like you’re coughing a lot or have the munchies take another few days before you try again

I asked this to my team, not that I am using. They say if you use it without tobacco, it is fine. Either bake a (low fat, low sugar) cake with it or use a Water pipe.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
