I’m a little over 1 week post op. I lost 20 pounds on my pre-op liquid diet. Since returning home from surgery I haven’t lost ANY weight. I have gotten all 64 oz Fluid and 60 grams Protein in every single day and I’m walking atleast 1 mile daily. What am I doing wrong?

The thing you are doing wrong is worrying. Just relax and stop stressing over weight loss, focus on healing first. Don't compare yourself to anyone else... just worry about your diet, do what you have been told to do, and just focus on the more important task, getting yourself healed up from surgery. Everything else will fall in line in due time.

You're doing great! A lot of doctors don't even care about the Protein a little over a week out. It's the lack of hydration that kills people and you've got that licked. Keep up the good work!

Thank you both! Guess I’m second guessing everything and hoping I’m not the one person that won’t lose weight.
My friend who is 2.5 years post-op said it took a while for the weight loss to kick in but then it just fell off. You are doing good so just keep it up. I'm 4 days post-op and have only lost 2 oz.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
