The thought of a catheter.. scary!

Recommended Posts

The last time I was in the hospital my gallbladder surgery didn't go well and I woke up in the ICU, with a catheter. Didn't bother me at all but I wasn't moving around much. I'm female, but there wasn't any pain when they removed it, either. Now, my close friend just had RNY in September and she woke up with a catheter and they had wanted her to keep it in overnight, but as soon as they started trying to make her walk around she insisted they get that out of there. Sitting still, not so bad. Walking around, uncomfortable!

@Foof76, every time I see your pen name I am reminded of my daughter's favorite child song " Little Rabbit Foo- Foo" is that where you got it? Silly song but still kind of fun.

Sill not as bad as being sutured without numbing. That happened to me, accidentally ripped out my stitches, they put them back in but said it was too soon to give me any numbing and I felt every needle insertion, yank and tug, all 15 of them. The distention and such of an urinary cath, No Big Deal!

Holly smokes! I always cringe when I see that in the movies. You need to change your name to Frustr8 Rambo! LOL

My surgeon did not want to use catheters so he made sure that each patient went to the bathroom at least twice before surgery.

I've seen this before in some of the YouTube videos I obsessively watch. I think it's up to the surgeon. One lady on YouTube peed a little in the bed before she could make it to the porcelain target.

LOL, no, but I do know the song. It's been a nickname for over 25 years that was a combination of a few silly stories with friends and family. Since then one of my friend's entire family calls me Foo-foo and my little sister calls me Foof. So much that my nephews call me Auntie Foof and don't even know my real name! :D

My surgeon did not use a catheter, thank God! I had one in the past for child birth. It doesn’t hurt. For me it was a mental block. It’s the process of getting it placed and removed, the thought of it and knowing it’s there that I can’t tolerate. But if you have to have it done it’s not actually painful. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
