Kaiser Bellevue, WA

I had to weigh in at my doctor's office this week so they could fax the results to Kaiser in Bellevue. Kaiser called me a day later and said congratulations, you're below the required weight and have finished all of the pre-surgery tests. Now we can schedule an appointment with the surgeon and the dietitian. I started the whole process by weighing in at my Dr.'s office in May of this year. Yesterday I got a call from the "scheduler" at Kaiser and she was super excited to tell me my appointment with the Nut. and Surgeon will be on Dec. 4th! Needless to say, I wasn't as excited as she was considering the process just to see the surgeon to talk about what kind of surgery I will be getting and when that will happen has taken over 6 mo. I pay $650 every month for this insurance plus I think I've met my out of pocket costs for the year so I was hoping to get the surgery done in 2018 before that resets. Makes me wonder if they're stalling on purpose or is this just normal for Kaiser Permanente . At $7800 per year year for health insurance plus out of pocket expenses, I'm beginning to wonder if it would've been better to fly to Mexico and get it done. Oh well, that's my rant for the day. Happy Friday y'all :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
