Fellow banders,

Just had a quick question for you.

Did your weight loss team give you anticoagulant injections straight after your surgery and tell you it was essential you injected either your stomach or thighs everyday for a period of a few weeks?

I’m wandering this 8 years post-op as I have never heard anyone else having to do this.

Thank you 😊

Popping into your forums I have had to do them every since I came home, 3 weeks ago twice a day, 8AM-8PM, they should be over soon but I had the BIG GUN, an RnY. Gotten pretty good at them, sure not a talent I ever planned having. Heal well and Live Healthy,My Friends!😛

Nope, not with my band installation back in 2011. But I did have to give myself lovenox injections 2x a day for 7 days after my band to bypass revision. I don't see why you'd need them for the band installation as there should have been zero internal cutting.

Yes it is common after surgery. Lovenox (Enoxaparin) is an anticoagulant that helps prevent the formation of blood clots. Lovenox is used to treat or prevent a type of blood clot called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can lead to blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism).

I had a couple whilst in hospital in my stomach (Surgery was July this year), but none once I left (the next day). Was not sent home with anything other than pain relief!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
