9. Don't start counting on shredded cheese to "cover" up leftover tastes!!! Avoid cheese bombs. You will go to The Hell if you don't.

I try in restaurants to either order from kids menu, if anything good, or pick something that reheats well so I get 3-4 meals from it. Also, if it comes with something you can’t eat just ask them to leave it off so it doesn’t get wasted. You can also ask for smaller portion of certain things if you don’t want leftovers. Might not be nice enough to charge you less, but at least food won’t get wasted.

I follow a lot of these tips too - the small plate, splitting meals with family if we go out.

I also adopted 2 new thoughts that help me with accepting food waste:

On throwing it out: Better in the trash than on the thighs. In your belly isn't doing the kids in Africa any good either.

On lamenting spending on just a few bites: If fat me was worth the price, then thinner me is too. (Or: I am worth the cost of this meal, even if I can't/won't eat all of it. )

Oh this Faulty Thinking brought. many,of us to WLS. I heard The poor starving children in _____would. love to,have my plate of X food. I would, have better off to have filled a Styrofoam Cooler, and called Federal Express to come pick it up. Instead of getting to,share it I ended up wearing it.
News Flash The Children in _____may not, have wanted,to,willingly eat Mama's Cooking either.

Small plates and small bowls are my friend now when eating at home.

We also go out to eat a lot too and appetizers or happy hour are my friend for ordering. I’m also not shy of eating a bite of two off other plates if they have something I really only want one bite of (usually some decadent carb that one bite is plenty.)

The whole tossing food has been hard. If can I’ll freeze some of it but I find even then I’m underwhelmed and reach my I’m done.

Leftovers are a reality now after surgery. Definitely use a smaller plate. You can try to make less food, but it's difficult to cook a single meal for a sleeve. Not impossible - just difficult.

Today I'm making Teriyaki Tofu with veggies. My step-son is home so i'll make a big pot. He gets 1 giagantic serving and I'll have leftovers for lunch this week probably.

But - when I serve my portion today, I'll serve a sleeve portion to myself, and put the rest away before I even start eating. I may still not finish my plate, but I'll waste very little.

Honestly I just cheat. I usually make general tso's chicken with a jar of general tso's sauce from the grocery store and usually just add broccoli and Water chestnuts.

But post OP I want less fat and sugar and more Protein.

I start with firm tofu and grill it with some olive oil spray in a pan. And now I use broccoli califlour and carrots. I may or may not add water chestnuts. I love them but they have no nutritional value so I dont know that they're worth it. I should probably get some nuts instead.

Then I add teriyaki sauce. Jarred teriyaki sauce is a lot less sugar than general tso's but still really good.

Now i do this but you may want to skip this - I add red pepper flakes and cayenne pepper. I'm not a huge fan of tofu but if its spicy enough good!

Oh - when I brown the tofu I may add a little low sodium soy sauce as well for flavor and color.

One time when I was feeling very adventurous I made my own sauce using soy sauce, honey and some other stuff but I dont remember everything I used. It was excellent but that was over 5 years ago. It's just easier to buy the jar of sauce from the store.

My step son will likely have rice. None for me though.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
