Tomorrow I get to start stage 2 Puree..... my instructions are a bit confusing... 1st eat Proteins, 2nd eat vegetables&Fruit, 3rd starches. 2-3 oz per meal.

I'm assuming prepare 1 item from each list? then only 1 oz each or 2-3 oz each? Help??? LOL

Hahaha! Sometimes the wording can really throw you off. I just started purees 1 week ago and my group said that your total meal should be 2-3 Fluid ounces in size. The majority of it should be Protein but not every bit has to be since you can have fruit vegetables etc. Regardless of what you put in the 2 to 3 oz total you should eat the protein part first and finish up with the remaining items if you still have room. My first puree, it was pretty hard to get down more than an ounce but one week out it is much much easier.

2 things during the 'soft food' phase were amazing for me. Refried Beans and, of course, the Ricotta Bake from Eggface:

I did a Protein Shake in the morning, then one in the afternoon before trying to eat. Then at night, I had a water-based Protein Drink called About Time, but I don't think they sell the ready-to-drink waters anymore. Isopure is another water-based Protein option as well. They were a little easier to get down later in the day.

There were days when I couldn't get both Protein Shakes plus food, but on those days the water-based Protein Drinks came in handy as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
