Losing hair - 8 days post up

Recommended Posts

This morning I found a relatively small chunk of hair on my pillow. They said it would start after 3 months but I’m already experiencing it.

When did your hair start to fall? Xoxo

Seriously? I was not told anything at all about Hair loss, as long as we eat enough Protein. Perhaps your body is just adjusting to your new pouch and the hair loss will stop. I sure hope it will! All the best.

Hair loss is a common side effect of WLS. Google telogen effluvium for more information. I started to notice loss around the 3-4 month mark with it subsiding at about the 9-12 month mark. My hair was visibly thinner to me and I have fine hair to start. Although no one else noticed (or at least they didn't say anything) my hair dresser noticed and she didn't know I had surgery. When I told her she suggested cutting my hair a little shorter and darkening it - this did help to make it appear more full. The good news is I am about 1 1/2 year out from my surgery and it is noticeably thicker. I have lots of "fly away" hairs where I can tell there is growth that just isn't as long as most of my hair.

I'm not going to lie, it sucks but you will get through it and it is worth it!

It took about 3 months after surgery to start losing a good deal of hair. I lost almost 1/2 of my hair before I reached my goal weight. It is kind of disturbing while it is happening. I had to keep reminding myself that the hair would return. The good news is that your hair does grow back. Things started looking a lot better after 1 year. I'm 3 years out and I have my full head of hair back.

A bit of advice - don't waste money on products that claim to grow hair. No product can fix Hair loss while you are on a very low calorie diet. I see posts recommending shampoos and supplements. I took Biotin after surgery and it didn't have any effect on my hair loss.

Well I will be 12 weeks on Wednesday, haven't noticed anything yet except my hair, which is thin anyway, had developed a strange desire to spike on me. Move over Meatloaf, your Rocker step-sister Ham Loaf has arrived!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
