5-weeks post-op H20 still hurts

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone would care to share how long it took before simple Water stopped feeling like a ton of bricks when you drink it. Cold water, lukewarm water, hot water, it's all the same effect. UGH!

I never had trouble with Water after maybe post op day 2. Is this just water you are having issues with? Are you able to drink say warm tea or broth? What about a popsicle or Protein Shake? What about flavored water?

Some people do seem to have issues with plain, unflavored water after surgery but if it is all fluids causing an issue that may be a larger problem.

Honestly, I'm 7 weeks and sometimes it still hits hard. I had to do room temp water for a while and I am just now meeting my water goals and drinking with ice again. It's takes some time, but it should ease up some. Just make sure to do small sips. I am constantly sipping. If I do a big gulp or too many sips at a time, it's like bricks hitting my stomach. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm 4 weeks post RNY and just plain cold Water is really hard for me. I drink +-100 ounces a day of cold water with Crystal Light in it which goes down fine but plain water is really hard. Dietician told me that it's a Ph issue and would likely get better with time.

I’m a little over 4 weeks post op (Sleeve) and Water (any temp) feels like bricks. If I add crystal light or water flavoring it helps. But sometimes plan water just makes me want to throw up.

I agree. CRYSTAL LIGHT, baby! Makes a world of a difference compared to plain Water.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
