Non Plain Water Drink Choices

Recommended Posts

Tea, a personal favorite.

I also have a Water Infuser pitcher I keep in the fridge and flavor my Water with whatever sounds good/whatever I have on hand. If you look around you can get one cheap.

My go-to is Sobe Water. I LOVE it! Zero calories with added nutrients/vitamins. I go through about 2 - 20 ounce bottles a day. Propel and Crystal Light are too sweet for me.

I'm struggling with this too as well now. Can't seem to get Water to go down easily (including Hint) and the artificial sweeteners in most "sugar free" items has become nauseating. Here's what I'm drinking now, but would love any other ideas:

  • Herbal Teas
  • Caffeine free coffee
  • Coconut water (has carbs so can't have it daily)
  • Plain water (yuk)
  • Vitamin Water 0 (but it's beginning to get to me)

I know this could go away in a few months, and I wish I knew the science behind why my brain wants these things to be intolerable... but any hydration hacks? So far I've captured:

  • Watermelon
  • Sugarfree popsicles
  • Watered down juices

Actually - I’m over the Water thing. Severe bathroom issues have now helped my mind cross over to suck it up. I will get watermelon tomorrow though.

I am in Clear Liquids only of my pre op diet. Here are My favorites so far

- hint water! Watermelon and pineapple are my favorite but I haven’t had a bad one. I’ve loved hint Water since before I was even thinking about getting wls.

-trimino Protein water in coconut/pineapple. This has 7 grams of whey protein isolate. Ice cold the flavor was decent, but I hated the apple flavored one.

- a&w root beer packets. I found these at Walmart with the crystal light. I HATE that fake sugar after taste of water enhancers, and while I have never beem a big soda drinker my drink of choice was root beer when I did. This tastes EXACTLY like a root beer minus the carbonation, but still only has 10 calories in a pack (one pack per 16 oz water).

I have some Premier Protein clear out for delivery today, so hopefully it doesn’t taste awful.

I drink.. Water, Minute Maid light lemonade (5 cals), and Powerade Zero.

And herbal teas on occasion.

I've been plopping an herbal tea bag in my massive water bottle and drinking that. It seems to hit my stomach a little less hard than just the plain Water.< br />
I also do hot tea and water down the occasional Protein water. I hate how sweet they are in their 'pure' form.

I like Hint a lot, but it seems to hit my stomach pretty hard still.

You're the second person I read today that likes Hint, I don't think anyone sells it around here.

I dislike hint Water. I’m currently drinking g2, Powerade zero, nature twist, Decaf tea and coffee and Lipton diet teas. I also do water packs all Flavors.

@Frustr8–Target sells Hint if that helps.
Also Gatorade Zero orange flavor has been my go-to drink. I hated any type of Gatorade pre-WLS now it tastes so much better than Water to me.

Why is that?

I am the same way, pre-op I only drank Water, and tea (and a little wine😉). Now I want to drink ANYTHING besides water.

Is it bc we are eating so much less that having flavor any way is helpful?

Having an infused water pitcher in the fridge has helped me a lot, way cheaper than buying lots of potions and drinks. Only problem is that my kiddos want to drink all of mommy's "juice water". 😜

When I want something different I drink a Bai drink. The coconut is awesome and their Watermelon or Blueberry are great too.

Jolly Rancher has a watermelon flavor sugar free mix, it’s so yummy!! I don’t mind Water but when I want something sweet I love that one...it’s taste just like the jolly ranch watermelon candy. 😋

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
