Surgery tomorrow morning, can’t sleep!

Recommended Posts

Trying to sleep but can’t stop thinking about and trying to anticipate what tomorrow is going to be like and how I’m going to feel after making such a drastic life decision!

Keep worrying that I’ll show up and I’ll have messed something up or forgotten something and they’ll cancel or postpone the surgery.

So much adrenaline and anxiety, trying to do some guided sleep meditations (using calm.com) but not getting anywhere...

Any suggestions for the night before surgery jitters??!?

Tomorrow will go fine, actually, it will go faster for you than anybody else. What seemed like a little nap for me turned out to be 8 hours for my family that were with me.

Try not to be anxious. Maybe take a hot shower to wear you out? I know you probably can't take any meds, so that's all I can think of. Do your best not to focus on it, try to think about anything else. If you have the TV on (Or your computer or phone :) ) studies have shown that the blue spectrum of light given off prevents your body from releasing melatonin, thereby keeping you awake.

Thanks! I’ll do my best to resist continually picking up my phone! Deep breaths!

I hope you wake up refreshed and ready! My surgery isn't until the 15th and I already can't sleep. Good luck tomorrow :)

You'll have plenty of time to rest in the coming days. Unlike the jitters from the first day of school, this time you'll be put to sleep (refreshed or not). The boring part is the prep part: putting in an IV, answering the same questions over and over, and the highlight of every hospital visit, fresh-new footies. Yellow footies have always brought me luck. :) I hope you're patient #1. I was #3 and my surgery ended up being sometime after 5pm in the afternoon instead of 12:30-1c'clock.

It's an exciting day. One that I hope you will remember fondly. Other than childbirth, this is probably the only other medical experience that gives something priceless to you... a new life.

Thanks everyone for your help and support!!! Made it through to the other side, daydreaming about chugging ice Water - my surgeon doesn’t allow me to eat/drink anything until 6am tomorrow, tough because my surgery was at 730am!

Some pain but mostly controlled by meds, was up and on a decently long loop around the floor around 3pm and walked to the bathroom to pee a little bit ago. The walking feels fine but it’s the getting in and out of bed that made me hurt a little!

Overall I’m feeling good and I’m very excited to be starting this new era!

Thanks again!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
