Sorry if this has been asked before.

Little background first. I had sleeve 3 years ago and had some GERD prior to surgery. It was well controlled with medication. My surgeon did an upper GI prior to surgery to make sure it was right for me. No hernia found and no damage that was severe enough to switch to bypass.

For the first two years after surgery I was on lansoprazole which was controlling the reflux somewhat. Last year, I started having trouble eating. I would have pain and feel like I had a ball sitting in my stomach. I was switched to Protonix and have been on it since.

In the recent months the acid has come back. I have also had issues with getting solid foods down. My surgeons office doubled my Protonix and added carafate 4 times a day. And the reflux got worse! I was tested for an ulcer and do not have one. I now have an upper GI scheduled to see what’s going on in my stomach.

My questions, who has been revised to bypass? Did it help your reflux issues? What made you and your surgeon finally settle on revision? How many different types of acid medication did you try first? Did you have issues with insurance covering it?

Thank you ahead of time. 😊

I had the sleeve to bypass revision in May of this year due to GERD. I was on pantaprozole (sp?) for a few months and nothing helped. I also wasn’t losing weight so we agreed on a revision.

havent had GERD since and it’s such a relief. I too had no ulcers

was well worth it in my opinion

I am scheduled for Sept 10 for the GERD. I have had my sleeve for the past six years I’ve had nothing but complications. I didn’t experience the GERD till six months after the sleeve is done but they didn’t diagnose the gERD till almost 3 years later.

I’ve been on three different PPIs, Bought a $7000 bed to elevate me while I sleep, and have to take another medication four times a day just to give me a little relief.

For the past three years been trying to get a stretta procedure approved. Each time getting denied. This year my insurance finally started covering Stretta but because of the insurance they wanted pic. The ESG showed I had a hiatal hernia and polyps. So now I’m going to be having A gastric sleeve to Roux en Y revision.

Thank you both so much for your answers! I appreciate it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
