How Long Before You Felt Normal?

Recommended Posts

At what point post-op did you feel ok?

I am 6 days post op, and surprised by how bloated and tired I feel, along with PAIN.

I am hungry, tired, and downright icky-feeling.

It took me several weeks to feel normal because my port was in alot of pain all of the time. It ended up flipping luckily they can still access what they need to so I didnt have to have a reopperation. Most of the other stuff went away for me in about a week.

It took me about a week and a half to really start feeling good. It was two weeks today and I feel great! Just be patient, this will pass.:bounce:

It took me about 5 days to feel normal, I am 14 days post op now and feel great. Went back to work on Monday, this was the best thing for me - It made me think of other things.

Hang in there it will get better, the worst part is being on liquids for three weeks, well - I have just another week to go - then I will be on the mushies.

The best advise I can offer is walk, walk, walk..... and drink plenty of Water (48oz a day)..

Good Luck !

After about 10 days the pain in my stomach stopped. It took a while longer for the horrible gas pain in my shoulder to stop. Then I felt very drained and tired for about a month. By 6 weeks out I felt like my old self.

I went to my post op appointment yesterday, November 7th, two weeks. I never got that "full" feeling, still hungry. I even gained a pound. What's up with that? I asked for and got my first fill yesterday 1.5 cc added to the already existing 3.0 cc that a total of 4.5 cc. Sounds like a lot. Don't know how to compare. I'm very sore at the port site, get real bad gas cramps and diahrrea. I was told I would get constipated. What's up with that? I also get dizzy and light headed and tire easily. :faint:I don't notice any difference in my appetite. Only difference is that I have to chew everything very slowly and carefully then comes the gas. I feel so yuky, I don't even like being around myself. Has anyone else had this experience? I would appreciate any feedback.:help: thanks so much.

I have a physical job and I went back to work after a week. I really should have wiated at least a week and a half. I think I had port incision problems because of it. It's pretty much better now. I do remember really feeling a lot better at about two weeks. I truly remeber the pain and gas associated with everything. I'm 6 weeks post-op now. I really didn't even feel anything for the last few weeks until yesterday. I had my first fill yesterday, yeah!!! Nothing feels anything different except I do feel some pain from drinking or eating soft foods. I'm going to listen to my band talking to me though. Good luck, your pain and discomfort will pass soon.

Thanks so much for the reply. I just like to know that what i'm going through is "normal." I appreciate what you said about listening to your band. I don't think I've given it the time. Again, thanks

I looked up just about week 3 and realized I was pretty much back to normal. Still tended to get a little tired easily though....that took a little over a month or stop.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
