I go for an endoscopy tomorrow morning at 7am. Never had any surgical procedures done. Any suggestions? King getting a little nervous.

It's a breeze. They'll start an IV in pre-op area, ask you tons of Qs over and over, wheel you into OR, give you a small amount of liquid to gargle and swallow. Tastes bad. It numbs the throat and aids in sliding in the scope once they put you in la la land. 15 minutes later you're back where you started and they monitor your vitals and bring you juice. No pain, just a moment of Yuck when you gargle. They send you home and you take it easy the rest of the day to to the anesthesia, cautioning you to avoid spicy foods or foods too hot. Ice chips are good as I felt dehydrated.

What Nibble said.

  • Put on gown and socks.
  • IV.
  • moved to the Surgery room.
  • They turn the Propofol on.
  • You are gone within seconds
  • You wake up in recovery
  • Your doctor visits and tells you what he found or did not find.
  • You can go home

Throat might hurt. I had 3 in my life and only once I could feel a sore throat. And you need somebody to drive you and take you home. Theoretically watch you for 24 hours. My doc said that some people have partial amnesia for awhile and turn stoves on and forget.

Super simple...don't sweat it! You likely won't remember much and the whole procedure takes around half an hour....it's not bad at all.

I woke up and my hubby took me to lunch. Was an easy kinda fun day:)

I was afraid of having my endoscopy also. I went to the hospital and they put an IV in my arm and the next thing I knew I was waking up and it was over. You have nothing to worry about.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
