I’m disappointed with lack of follow up

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on May 28 with Dr. Lisa Pompa. She was very nice and my stay at the center was very nice. However, since release I have not heard from anyone. I thought staff would reach out to see if I was healing properly or having complications. They sent me home with a meal plan for 2 weeks but no other guidance for the next stages. I’m starting week 3 post op and relying on forums to know what to do. Sadly they all are a little different. Is this normal to not hear from your surgeon or staff following VSG?

Typically the expectation is that if you have questions or anything that you'd call them. If you don't have the information you require, call them up and get it.

I had a one week follow up and then one month, 3 months, 6 months. These appointments included seeing the Nutritionist and the PA. But I was given a binder full of information as to the food stages, Vitamins, etc.

Call the surgeon's office and get the answers. Also ask if their are support group meetings.

They should be scheduling a follow-up visit after your surgery. Mine was at 2 weeks post-op. We also had a nutrition seminar before surgery on eating for the first 5 weeks then, another seminar at 5 weeks about how to eat afterwards. Do you have a nutritionist you can turn to?

I am not able to get in to my local providers because I had my surgery in Mexico.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
