1st day of pre-op diet - 8 hours in - absolutely starving!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

First day of my pre-op diet today and I’m really struggling!

Feel so weak, tired and hungry!

Does anyone have any advice on how to curb the hungry/weak feeling? Will it get better?!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

It will get better, but there's no denying that it's tough! All the pre-diets are different. Tell us what you're allowed to eat and then maybe we can give you some suggestions.

Thanks so much for your reply! Currently I’m allowed 3 slim fast shakes per day (200 cals each). I have an appointment with my dietician on 24th June so that may change! Have been drinking vast amounts of Water and coffee today!

Other than the shakes are you allowed any other calories at all? What other liquids besides Water & coffee?

No other calories, sadly. I would be allowed to switch one shake for a healthy meal but I don’t trust myself enough to not cheat so I’m sticking with the shakes for now!

If you can have one healthy meal you might consider doing that to pack in the Protein. Protein makes you fuller longer. You could prep it ahead of time to curb the temptation to cheat but only you will know what might work.

3 shakes is pretty limited. Mine is no other calories but at least I get 5 shakes.

Wow, that's pretty strict. How about making yourself frozen "coffee-sicles" or any other calorie-free drink. At least you could chew on those a bit. I hope someone else can offer suggestions. This is a tough one!

That sounds good!!! I think I will mention it to my dietician that I’m so hungry. Hopefully they will be able to make some suggestions!

Make your coffee-sucked with caramel shake mixed in , almost like a fudgesicle treat, Hey what about mixing chocolate or Cookies and cream in and making a mocha-sicle? 👅

I have been on the pre op liquid diet for five days and the first 2 days were really hard. It gets better hang In there. I’m only allowed 4 shakes. No coffee which sucks and I’m having headaches from the withdrawal. One think I am doing is putting crystal light in my Water that has helped a lot.

Hi guys! Day two for me today... feel a lot better! Rudedogg89 - the first day for me yesterday was awful! I feel so much better today and you will too tomorrow! Stick at it, you’re doing amazing!!! Brewer I know how you feel too! I’m having 3 slim fast shakes per day at 200 cals each... I’m still hungry today but not starving and weak like yesterday! I’m lucky as I’m having coffee - can you have anything caffeinated??

Oh no! That sucks so bad! 😢 I will struggle after surgery as I love Diet Coke and coffee!! Keep it up though, it’ll be soooo worth it! That’s what I keep telling myself!! You’ll feel better in a few days once the withdrawal is out your system 🙏

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
