Good Day BariatricPal denizens!
I've got an odd issue, I've got a follow up with my surgeon here in 2 weeks, but I figured I'd Poll the Audience in the mean time.

Since shortly after my surgery, I don't recall exactly when I noticed, but about a month now I figure, I've had this spot on my leg (Right leg, on the front/outside area of my shin not far below the knee) that I've lost sensation in, I can feel pressure, but that's about it. And it's ONLY on the outside and only a small circular area, about an inch or 2 across or so. Originally the tissue underneath was giving me issues, it was painful to put pressure on, so certain exercise machines would be painful to use because of the pressure placed on this area.

Still dealing with the lack of sensation, I've found a LOT of information about all sorts of possible causes, didn't know if anyone else has had experience with this or not.
Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Stay Strong!

Weird, I would vote for some sort of nerve impingement. What actually caused it? Strange movement during exercise rotating or causing vertebrae motion. Besides that it's only a guess?

No idea... It wasn't something specific that happened and I noticed, I just happened to notice it one day. Wasn't sure if it was nerve based given the very small, limited scale of the issue. Such a quandary!

This is lateral femoral cutaneous nerve syndrome - it's a sensory nerve that gets affected by either rapid weight gain or loses. It's common, and harmless (but annoying)

Thank you Elmatador for a sensible and factual answer. I confess when I read these things I take them to ❤. Unless it has to do with male parts vs female parts, I sit and stew-- OMG if That happens to Me, what am I gonna do? Granted I'm not going to worry about premature goatee growth or gonad droopage and droppage, but the rest? Yipes that could be me, my eyes could cross if I drink fluids the wrong temp? I could start burping or belching when my tummy says it's full? I might get double vision if I use soy based whey isolate or plantbased Protein Shakes? If I find a shake what if it's 25 or 27% Protein, can I make out the other some other way? If I want to opt for tofu, can I hide it in foods so my carnivore family does not guess? And my current problem How do I convince my potatoholic son that all meals. do not start and end with the evil white tuber?
Signed. Frustr8 the Apprehensive😋

Thank you for asking this question. I also have a numb spot on my left hip. I thought I was going crazy.

Might be, but my spot is below the knee, everything I've read about Meralgia paresthetica is that it effects the outer side of the thigh, the Lateral Femoral Cutaneous, my issue is below the knee on the Peroneal Nerve. I'm thinking from looking this up that this might be more my situation, Common Peroneal Nerve Dysfunction.

But I will certainly update with information once I have it from my doctors.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
