1 week post op...feeling great

Recommended Posts

Surgery was 5/29, so far great, no sickness, no pain pills needed. My surgical glue is already starting to peel off, i go back to work tomorrow. I've lost 31 pounds since my first day of my liquid diet. So 31 pounds lost in 21 days. I feel great, I have tried small bites of yogurt, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, and sugarfree vanilla pudding. Nothing upset my stomach. Im still on liquid diet other then just a small bite here and there. Getting my Water, and trying to get all my Protein in daily. I love how I feel, im excited to see how the months to come go. Good luck to everyone on the pre op side, and good luck to us all on post op side. Keep us posted.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! Just let that momentum stick with you! You'll stall, but just remember that weight is only 1 number and body fat % might be dropping even if you aren't losing "weight".
Congrats!

@KimberoThis is so encouraging to hear! You are doing incredible! Just to clarify, you are taking 8 days off work total? That sounds amazing to me. Do you have a desk job? I love how your diet allows for some small bites. Did you have any pain meds at home?

@jrandolph68 Congratulations! You're doing amazing too! Love hearing this as I'm fairly new here but fast approaching my date. :)

Jessicajourney, yes 8 days off work. Im an office manager, so yes i get to sit some but will also be on my feet. I plan on taking it easy the 1st few days back. And yes trying just a small bite of soft stuff lets me test the Water, to see what my stomach excepts and not. I had my pain pills prescription filled the day i got out of the hospital, but i havent had to take any at all. Im so thankful that its been this easy for me. Super excited for us all and our new journey

That's awesome. I'm an Office Manager too so I understand the "sit at the desk" and up running around the office completely! I thought you had Gastric at first and saw you had the Sleeve. I'm still figuring out this site. Sorry! LOL I'm having Gastric this month and am curious to see if no pain meds are doable with that as well as I'm really wanting to not use them as much as possible. Cheers to our journeys!

Also work in office and sit at desk most of the day. I was back to work the day after I got home from the hospital. We all heal differently but it helps when the heaviest thing I lift is a pen.

This is incredible. You didn't really take any time off. I was planning on 2 weeks off but my post op diet is pretty strict with about 3 weeks of liquids only before moving to puree. You are giving me hope that recovery may be much better than expected. Did you guys have any help at home?

Wow! Incredible to be back to work after Gastric Bypass so quickly. How was work today? How is the head hunger? Do you feel hydrated? I'm still so impressed at your ability to get right back at it and how much weight you've lost. Congrats!

1 week full liquids...then 2 week puree for me. I just prepared/planned my liquids out and used cooler and insulated mugs to keep things cold. Keep a positive attitude and keep hope alive.

@jrandolph68 That's a great idea about the cooler. I bought those little 2 oz. clear disposable cups with lids and think they may look weird in our office refrigerator. I like the idea of storing a little cooler under my desk.

@jrandolph68 & @Kimbero Congrats on being this far our post op. You are my veterans now. :) Hoping I may ask you a few questions?

Did you have help at home when you returned from the hospital?

Can you chew gum?

How does your tummy feel?

Any head hunger?

Do you feel weak or out of it or pretty much like yourself?

How do you feel emotionally?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
