3 1/2 years post VSG needing help

Recommended Posts

I am 3 and half years post VSG
Lost 69-75 lbs initially and did not reach my goal.
I really don’t feel like I got the best support from my team.
Long story short I am beginning to feel like a failure. The scales are going the wrong way!!!!!
I have slowly over the past year put on about 15-20 lbs.
I really am looking for any suggestions.
I still have not eaten any bread, or Pasta. Which I feel is pretty good.
I can eat crackers etc. which is my downfall.
I am a carb junkie. I also am a stress eater.

Also there are times when I eat meat rather it be chicken steak or any kind of meat, my stomach feels funny. Does anyone experience difficult with their stomach feeling different.

I just want to get back on track.
Thanks in advance.
Annisa

I suggest working with a mental health professional. The people on this board can offer you support, but not the kind that a therapist can.

We can tell you what to start over doing, but ultimately YOU have to decide to Do IT. Go back to basics - Protein first, then vegetables, Water, water, water.

Do you journal?

Journal your food intake, weigh or measure your protein and vegetables. Use a free phone app like Baritastic or myfitnesspal, it makes it easier. Eliminate carbs - you said this was your problem - so you know the answer to your own question. Try Quest chips instead of crackers - yes they are pricey but they are 19gr of protein and 4 carbs.

Start walking or get an exercise dvd. Re-commit.

Make an appointment with a dietician and your surgeon's office, don't be embarrassed - it happens, they can help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
