Is anyone doing the Optifast program?

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all!

I went to the doctor to learn more about my surgery options and my doctor recommended I try an Optifast program first. I have my first appointment to learn more about it in 2 weeks but I'm curious now, lol. Has anyone ever tried it? If so, what were your results? Has anyone ever done the UAB or Princeton program?

Thanks so much!

I did a similar program in 2009, HMR (google it). I lost 100 pounds by 2010 but when I stopped drinking their shakes and eating their food and tried to integrate back into healthy foods I started to gain. Eventually I dropped out of the program and gained all of the weight back plus 20 pounds My biggest regret is that when I lost the 100 I should have did a self pay and got the sleeve right then... oh well...

My pre surgery diet was Optifast. It’s OK. I got through it. If I made the shakes in a nutribullet with ice, they were OK. I also liked the bars. I could have non starchy vegies or salad for dinner. I did a lot of experimental cooking. I remember making a Mexican spiced Soup, and a cauliflower soup. I did feel a bit dizzy going from a high calorie to a very low calorie diet but I got through it! You do drop weight super fast!

I did 100% Optifast only for 13 days prior to surgery. 3 shakes a day and 2 other items (either bars, Soups, or more shakes.) First three days SUCKED. Day 4 on, totally fine. I actually got to a point where I wasn’t hungry and didn’t even want all the items in a day. I also got at least 96 oz of Water a day. Day three was a terrible headache, but like I said, after that I was fine. I still drink the shakes. The only items that were intolerable for me were the Tomato Soup and strawberry shake.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
