Newbie post-op questions

Recommended Posts

Hi, new to this site and only 6 days post op. I went to Mexico for surgery. Everything went well however I am slightly concerned as I have prepped myself for small sips and having so much Fluid in a time period. However I had a moment when I was so thirsty I didn’t think and quzzled some Water. Once I noticed I was half a water bottle down I was expecting something to happen, discomfort, vomiting or something. But I had nothing. Does this seem off to anyone. Is it normal to be only a week out and able to drink as normal. I am going to attempt soft food today. What if I eat and don’t feel the fullness? Should I be measuring my fluids and food out and only haveing that at certain time periods? Just nothing like I mentally prepared myself for....

Hi Jesta -

Congrats on the successful surgery! I, too, had no problem with fluids. I always made sure I sipped (because it's drilled into us) but I did a little guzzling a week or two out and had no feeling of wanting to burst or wanting to vomit it back up. I do tend to keep food and liquid separate, just so my stomach won't empty too soon, but feeling uncomfortably full if I don't sip? Nope. I'm just like you. Again, keep your drinking time separate from your eating time and just listen to your body. You still have a lot of healing left to do.

Congrats @Jesta on your surgery. Hope your healing proceeds swiftly! No, it's not a problem, you're just lucky! It's still good to get in the practice of sipping, because not all liquids are Water, but good for you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
