Help: Swelling & Bruising

Recommended Posts

I was banded a couple of days ago and I came home from the hospital this morning. I have noticed that where one of cuts is that it is now swollen & bruised. That's where it is the most sore. Any ideas of what could be happening??

Is it your port incision? I don't have any swelling or brusing but it is the most tender spot. I have been having some pretty sharp pains. Not sure why you would be swelling. I would call your doctor and see if that is normal.

I spoke to my doctor and he said that it's not unusual to have swelling and bruising but did say to call the hospital if it gets worse.

Thanks Patty, I'm still very sore today. I must say I haven't much rest which is probably not helping. I see we're banding twins.

I have quite a bit of bruising around my port incision, too, that didn't really show up until the last day or so. My entire abdomen was swelling before but that has gone down.

Do get some rest! I'm feeling very lazy today but I'm hoping that this will help me when I go back to work next week!

Thanks again for your support. I just want this stage to be over... lucky I can work from home this week. If I feel better may go into the office on Thursday... that would be a week after surgery. I think today is going to be a bed day. :sick:notagree

Aloha Sades

I was banded on 7/11/07, and had some swelling and redness at the port site. As for the bruising, well thats another story, I looked like I had been kicked by a mule. When I asked the Doctor about it, he said it was because I was really big guy (398 Lbs.) and when they but the Gas in to extend my stomach the insturments were almost too short and he really had to work to get the band in place. I have six incisions not the normal 5 because he wanted to make sure the band was seated good. But it all went away in about 3-4 week. Take care and good luck with your band.

Aloha

Thanks Dave. Sounds awful !!! :( Anyone who says we've taken the easy way out need their heads examined !! :D I think I hurt mine because I had problems getting in and out of bed at the hospital (only 155cm tall)... was there 2 nights. Wish I had asked the nurses for help more often but because I was getting in and out of bed so often (was feeling really restless) I didn't want to bother them... silly me. Anyway, whatever the reason, I need to look after myself so I heal quicker. Had a few visitors yesterday but hopefully today will be quieter.

THE EASY WAY OUT NO WAYS!!!! with all the complications that i basically could have avoided by not having any kind of surgery is not the easy way out changing your eating habit forever not the easy way out having a medical device implanted under your skin forever not the easy way out! Dieting and saying oh i proboly shoulnt have that donut but i will not being able to have the donut because you know how sick it will make you is not by far the easy way out so ya we all did this for the same reason but it def was not because it was easier lol!!! GOD BLESS

LOL Jamie, you hit the nail on the head... I really only had that said to me once but it jarred. I would give this pain and suffering back if I could but unfortunately it is a journey and I haven't arrived at the best part of it yet. Thanks and good luck to you as well.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
