Sleeve Re-check. Help!

Recommended Posts

I had sleeve surgery 12/2012. Fantastic results! However, I am finding that I can eat much more now. I feel I need to go back in to have my sleeve checked out to make sure all is well. They recommended me to return post-op, however, this was the last thing on my mind! I've had a wake-up call when I realized that I have gained 20 lbs back in the last 2 years. Has anyone else had to have a revision? I do NOT want to go through this again, but for my health, I can suck it up and go back. By the way, I NEVER thought I'd be experiencing this. My fat clothes are long gone and I'm running out of things to wear!

Hi! I have not been sleeved yet, however i've done a lot of research. From what i have read and what my dr. has said in youtube videos he post, its normal to gain back 10-20 pounds once you hit the maintenance stage. I have seen some post as well about doing what is called a sleeve reset diet, to allow the stomach to go back to the size it was when you were recently out of surgery. That may be something you might want to try and see if it helps with jump starting your weight loss again and help get those 20 pounds off.

Hummm, I have never heard of a sleeve re-set diet? I contacted my surgeon late last night and told him about my concerns. He said he wants me to come back into the office. Please don't be alarmed about you! It was the best decision of my life...I'm just very worried now because of the weight gain!

Some capacity increase over time is normal - by this docs' experience, typically to about half of your pre-op capacity, which is enough restriction to provide for good weight control, but also enough to let things get our of hand if you eat the wrong things.

I like this guy in that he acknowledges this characteristic of our WLS, and also provides a prescription of how to counter it, and it does have some merit (I do something like that, in that my diet is fairly veg heavy, though I don't buy into everything he says.)

Yes, have your docs check things out in the event that there have been some odd evolutions with your sleeve.

Take these "reset" diets with many kilos of salt - they are fundamentally fad diets that work on the premise that we lost a lot of weight early on when on a liquid diet, so therefor we should go back to a liquid diet to lose lots of weight again. Reality check - our early weight loss had nothing to do with a liquid diet, but simply that we physically couldn't eat much, and those of us who were never on a liquid diet still lost lots of weight early on. A basic meat and green veg diet will do all that is needed to "reset" things and restart some weight loss.

Good luck in getting this worked out

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
