Did anyone have to do lovenox injections?

Recommended Posts

They’re to prevent blood clots.

i have to do it twice/day for 14 days. I have been doing them since post op and it’s been going ok except I find that the thigh is harder to pierce than the tummy and stings for a bit afterwards.

just curious if anyone else had to give themselves injections

I did for 14 days as well. I gave mine in my tummy, I agree it's easier! [emoji16]

I did this during pregnancy to prevent miscarriage. But I could never give them to myself and made my husband do it.

I did and I always did them in my stomach. I’m used to taking insulin so it never bothered me.

Aaah. Yea doc told me to change between my thigh and tummy. And I am not putting them near my incision sites so I am running out of space lol

I only had it twice while in the hospital. I don't know what it was called but I got one right b4 surgery and one the next day. That was my only fear about the surgery, lol.

I did one the morning of surgery and then for 2 weeks after I went home. I had plenty of tummy to keep moving the injection site around :P

I had one shot just before surgery and one the next day before going home. I’ve been walking every day since surgery and have not needed any more.

I see. I didn't have that problem. My incisions were up higher on my enormous stomach. I had plenty of room LOL :D;-)

My pulmonologist said that clotting risks can continue for up to 8 weeks after major surgery. Make sure if you go back to a desk job to get up every hour and walk for 5 minutes. My surgeon actually lost a patient close to when I had surgery due to a pulmonary embolism from being too stationary for too long. She also lived far from the nearest hospital.

Christ now I’m freaked the hell lol, I haven’t been getting much walking in, I’ve been so out of it... I had better set alarms...

I don't mean to freak you out, but yes walking is very important. Are you still on the injections?

Yeah 2 of 10.... it’s raining here for the next 10 days so getting outside and going anywhere is like out of the question... sucks... when was your surgery?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
