Starting to get anxious!

Recommended Posts

So, my surgery is on May 29th which means that I start my liquid diet in less than a week, next Tuesday. I have been trying to eat and say "good-bye" to as many foods as possible before that time. Well, tonight we went out for supper and I had a very yummy, huge omelet (didn't eat it all) with bacon, sausage and cheese. I also had two slices of toast with butter and jam. I was nice and full by the time that we left the restaurant. My issue is that when leaving the restaurant, I could smell someone in the area grilling and it smelled SOOOO good. Now I'm thinking that I need to have a nice big grilled hamburger before my liquid diet but have no access to a grill. Potato salad would be wonderful too. I just keep thinking of more and more foods that I want/need to have before next week. Has anyone else dealt with this and how did you handle it? I'm starting to freak out a little bit.....

Well, reading this was torture as I’m still on post op liquids [emoji6]. But it all sounds delicious. To be honest, I enjoyed every single meal I had for the week before I went into surgery (no liquid diet required until the day before for me). I went to my favorite restaurants and ordered my favorite things, but didn’t over eat like I normally would. I was shocked that I’d still lost 2 more pounds on the day of surgery. I don’t know what to tell you, because saying you should eat what you want while you can is not the healthy thing to say, but I did and it worked out ok for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
