Artificial sweeteners

Recommended Posts

I have never like artificial sweeteners. But I have been trying some lately. Today I bought some yogurt with some in to try! It is so awful! I don’t know if I can do it!

Any suggestions?

Toodles,

Rue

The only one I can stand and doesn't make me sick is Stevia. Have you tried that?

I agree. Stevia is natural, it's a little hard to get accustomed to the taste but once you find a brand that you like, you hardly notice it. Do not get Truvia. It is only partially Stevia, I believe the remainder are sugars.

I too prefer Stevia. It’s the only sweetener I can tolerate but I am pre-op for RNY. So I am not sure if that will change after surgery.

I am getting away from the artificial sweeteners as much as possible now. I was using the Mio flavor drops and I think they were really doing my entire body a disservice. I got discharged from the hospital this morning (I had to go back due to a stricture) and the entire time all I had was Water. I feel physically better as a result. Mio can suck it!

I eat TONS of Splenda (Sucralose). I love it and I don't worry about it:)

Stevia Sweetens me up where the rest made me headachy, crabby, cranky and no fun to be around. With Stevia my natural sweet disposition resurfaces. FYI I have even cut back,in that, I am enjoying the natural sweetness of my foods, better do it quick because the structurlized starvation of the dreaded liquid diet is-a-coming. Just don't know yet when it kicks into gear😞

I put Truvia in my tea and tolerate it just fine. I think it’s a matter of finding what will work for you.

Artificial sweeteners didn’t bother me at all pre op but now some things with them I can’t eat because of them. Yogurt is one. Triple zero makes yogurt with no artificial sweeteners. You really have to read the labels and choose carefully if they bother you. I find some flavors more offensive than others as well.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
