Hi everyone! Thankfully the surgeon who opened the abscess wasn’t my bari surgeon he was the on call for the weekend. I am going to be staying five days total in the hospital on iv antibiotics then seeing my surgeon 2-3 times a week for wound checks and continuing oral antibiotics at home. My numbers are improving so while this is incredibly frustrating and painful I am staying positive. My rny looks great the abscess thankfully was just at one of the opening sites and it seems like I will not need a second surgery as healing is going well! Thank you

That is GREAT news girl!!!! So happy to hear and LOVE your can-do attitude!!!! Did your surgeon see you yet and has he said "sorry" for anything? I'd raise a fairly significant ruckus about the lack of taking you seriously.

Look, I'm a lay person and although I have had cellulitis a couple of times in my lymphedema arm--so know what i looks like, I knew the second I looked at those wounds that you needed serious attention! Also with your history, that would have tipped me off. Once you have a cellulitis infection, you learn it can come back anytime anywhere on your body and are watchful. :(

I just can't believe they were so cavalier with you! ((hugs))

That is wonderful that you are starting to feel better and they are managing the situation. However, I would rip the surgeon a new one and demand to know why they did not let you come in right away. There is no excuse for that and if it is a receptionist or medical assistant that told you that they clearly need additional training on how to triage phone calls. I have been a RN since 1980 and a nurse practitioner (pediatrics) since 1990 and there is just no excuse for the situation to get that far out of hand. And then to suggest you see your PCP since they need to leave on time is just plain negligent...grrrrrrr

I see him tomorrow hopefully to go home...my dad is a dentist and was extremely upset with entire situation...I tend to be too nice to be people too easily sooooo he will be here tomorrow not to be mean but to address the fact that whatever system they have in place is unacceptable and if it happened to me it surely has happened to someone else. Thank you for all the support....I’ll keep you posted on a release date and how I do!

Just checking to see how you are doing. I assume you are out of the hospital now- hopefully!

I have been very curious as well!

Thanks for checking....I am home was in the hospital for five days still off work...I go for a check tomorrow and I’m hoping they will let the wound close...we currently have to pack a few times a day. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers! While it’s been a rough recovery I am down 38 lbs in 3 weeks soooo that makes it a little better!

Good grief. This so shouldn’t have gotten this far. I’m glad you’re recovering but wow I’d be so pissed at my surgeon and team.

And another happy thought, as you get smaller the hole will too and you may end up with a little tinier scar😝

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
