Constipation During Liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is going to sound gross but I’ve been on my liquid diet almost 2 weeks now and I’m having major Constipation right now. I have taken stool softeners and did an enema. When i go to push, the hard piece is stuck and liquid just comes out around it. So nasty I know! I’ve even resorted to digging pieces out myself and still nothing. Now I’m in pain and crying. I can’t pee because the pain of pushing hurts my butt. Does anyone have a recommendation or should I just call the doctor?

I have no real advise other then to keep taking a stool softener and maybe a Fiber supplement you can sprinkle in your foods. I went just over 2 weeks without being able to go #2. I feel your pain.

That happened to me too. I tried everything you did too but in the end I had to push really hard until the clog came out and then it was just liquid all behind it.
It’s from all the Protein in the shakes that can make you constipated.
Good luck!

Metamucil 3x a day, colace 3x a day, maybe the occasional Miralax.

The fiber game is all about staying ahead, because once you fall behind its a pain in the ass

Keep up on the stool softeners . and the good old emma. lol that is what we have called it since I was young. I literally used KY jelly when I was that bad . yes it sounds gross but it worked (as a lub not orally) lol. I know it isn't nothing to laugh at .I started bleeding cause it was so hard . then after that I stayed on top of my Muralax . every evening and my pro biotics and stool softeners. Like they said it is a real pain in the ass literally

OMG! I experienced the same thing this morning. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. I thought I was going to faint on the toilet.

I’m 10 days post-op and I have been taking stool softener every night. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I’m drinking the Smooth Move tea as I type this.. I’ve also increased my Water intake and have been consuming 2 premier shakes everyday since surgery. Please help!!!! TMI, but my rectum still hurts so bad :(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
