2 week liquid preop diet

Recommended Posts

I still maintain....the liquid diet and the two weeks of starvation following surgery....are much harder than the surgery itself.

The preop diet sucks.

At least post op you feel like you're on the other side of the hill:)

Hey everyone! I'm already so excited to have downloaded this app to have others to chat with along this journey! My surgery date is May 3rd and I'm on day 6 of the liquid diet! It's not so bad as I'm a plant based vegan....I do miss fruit though and am kinda bummned to not have it for over the next month or so....I know it will be worth it though. Any other vegans on here?

I think in the recipes section there is a subsection for vegetarian/vegan recipes so you'll likely find some other vegan members posting in there :)

Good luck and welcome to the May team! MAY you succeed beyond your wildest dreams!!!

I am on day two of my liquid diet. I thought this liquid diet would suck cause I would be hungry. I am not hungry at all, I am so nauseous. Hopefully the nausea stops soon cause it is gonna be a rough two weeks if it continues.

I’m on day 1. Well, I just finished day one. I wasn’t nauseous today, but I was HUNGRY. It wasn’t mental hunger but physical hunger. My tummy was rumbly all day. Right now is the first time I haven’t been hungry. Thank you jello! [emoji23]
Are you on the Optifast diet? If not, what diet are you following? I just wonder if there’s something specific that’s not agreeing with you.
Hope you feel better tomorrow!

Jello is the best! I’m feeling better today! Thanks!

I am using the Meal Replacement made by my doctors office and I think that is what is bothering my stomach. I haven’t had any yet today and I feel great. I’m gonna try it once more and if I feel gross, I will give them a call and ask for an alternative.

I think I lost 12lbs? It's in my signature, but can't see it right now. And can't remember sh*t. :D

Oof. That’s awful. Maybe see if they let you do the Optifast? It has a lot of options taste wise. The chocolate Protein Drink is delicious! And it’s nice because everything is prepackaged. Like the drinks are like little juice boxes. I haven’t had any stomach upset so far and it’s just really convenient.
I just really hope you feel better soon. The diet is hard enough without feeling sick all the time.

I can't tolerate Optifast because it contains aspartame among other sweeteners (headache trigger for me) but I did sample the chocolate shake (decent when made with ice and icy water) and the optifast lemon mousse dessert was actually really good (made me sad I couldn't tolerate them, but my mum was really happy to take the rest of the package home for her to use!).

I drink the Premier Protein shakes. So many flavors! And so far all pretty good.

Yes, I too had nausea. But it passed. I found it was way worse when I took my Vitamins.

So, I'm at the end of day 13 of my 14 day liquid diet. It wasn't easy for me at all! However, by day 9 it seemed manageable. But tonight was hard. Was way too hungry. Might have been nerves or something. So far I'm down 12.8 pounds. Not the 15-20 like I was told, but the nutritionist told me not to worry.

I am on day #12 and as of this morning I am down 12.2#. Sounds about average on here. Absolutely no side effects other than a couple of episodes of feeling lightheaded when standing up quickly. It has gone A LOT better than I expected.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
