’ve just been for my consultation (with the NHS, in the UK) and been told they no longer do bands because they don’t work in terms of weight loss and almost inevitably end in complications which require the removal of the band. A cynical part of me wonders if this is actually about cost, given the frequency of follow up appointments for filling and defilling

You’re all experts, what are your experiences and thoughts please?

[NB have also posted this in the band forum]

I don’t think it has to do with costs. If it were due to costs, they’d still do them because wouldn’t you want your patient coming back for more appointments & getting filled/Unfilled?

Anyhow, I have sat in on many informational classes by bariatric surgeons and they no longer do bands because the risks outweigh the benefits. Too many erosions, slips, etc.

If the NHS funds (as in this case), they would bear all the costs of follow up appointments too.

Aah, I forgot you’re in the UK...

i still don’t believe it has to do with costs in all honesty.

Wish I had some Info to produce/articles. But I am just going off what I have heard personally from doctors

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
