How long After Gastric Sleeve....?

Recommended Posts

Hi, had my surgery 4/3/18. I am one wee post op today! I am feeling good other than some spasms of the stomach. I was wondering if anyone else suffered from that and how long they took to subside? Any remedies that helped with them? Also, how long after surgery were you instructed to begin purée foods?

I’m not sure what a stomach spasm feels like, but I don’t think I had them. Every plan is different, but generally you advance to purée after two weeks (I got permission at my first post op visit 12days out.

It’s basically like an intense contraction. Come on strong squeezing then subsides. I’m looking forward to the purée diet I can’t take these liquids. I had to to them two weeks pre op as well. I’m over it LOL

I had the spasms. I think that they lasted about 10 days. They did get less intense before then though.

My plan did away with puree BUT, I am on full liquids for 3 weeks post op. I did Optifast 4 weeks pre op so I hear you on being sick of liquids.

So from liquid they will put you straight to solid? Or are you doing all textures like watery, pudding and soft stuff?

I had the spasms as well. I was sleeved on April 3 and the spams have calmed down unless I try to drink too much or too fast.

Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Now that you said that I do realize the occur more frequently after drinking too fast. I will try to slow that down. Thank you

Hi, I had surgery the same day and I start the purée diet this Friday! I’m looking forward to it and a little scared. Hoping everything stays down. I was on the liquids since 2 weeks pre op also. No stomach spasms, just slight pain at incision site.

I am on phase 2 of my teams full liquids. That includes cottage cheese, sf pudding, strained creamed Soup. I have 2-3 ounces 6 times per day plus 3 Protein Shakes (must be 100% whey isolate for best absorption) Next Wednesday I will advance to soft solids like ricotta cheese, soft deli meats, soft cheese, etc.

I am starting Friday also!! I’m excited too. What kind of Protein Shakes and Vitamins have you been taking? Have you thrown up? I feel like it’s weird that I haven’t thrown up.

I’m doing the Premier shakes and I’m going to add unflavored GNC Protein Powder to my food tomorrow. And maybe do one shake if needed. I am tired of the shakes! I was instructed to start vitamins with purée stage. I will be taking Flintstone vitamins, B12 and the calcium citrate chews, starting tomorrow. I didn’t throw up yet..hoping I don’t! I am starting to wake up during the night feeling hungry. The last couple of days I have only been drinking two shakes and eating a total of 1 cup of Soup because getting 60-64 oz of Water is hard and filling! After I would eat something my stomach felt so bloated, it’s a very uncomfortable feeling. I think I have to start using a baby spoon, that may help.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
