Eating Way too Much and Always Hungry

I am 16 months post op and now for the past two months have been putting on weight little by little. Over the past 4 months I've put on about 6 pounds and it's scary and don't want to get out of control. I know I'm just bored at work and people here in my office eat constantly and I've succumbed to the bad habits again. The honeymoon period was awesome and I wasn't hungry and never craved sugar. Now I'm ashamed to say that I crave it and can eat whatever now. I never had dumping syndrome and nothing really made me sick except milk/dairy. Now I can even drink dairy now. I just need to get off the sugar again and buckle down.

Just wondering if anyone else out there over a year post op is experiencing the same thing.

My father had a GB about 10 years ago, after a couple of years he gained back some of his weight (mostly due to bad habits). The good news long term has been despite his bad habits he may have gained back some weight but he is still way below where he started and has been able to maintain for about 7 years.

I've been eating too much lately too. Gained a couple pounds. I need to cut out the candy and quit stuffing myself every night.

At the very least we see where the pounds come from and recognize that its our own fault. #winning

I'm also about 14 months out from surgery and I also have days where I notice I'm slipping a little bit. I don't get sick from anything so I haven't ever had that to keep me in check. I find that if I really focus on eating dense Protein first that helps - then if I do add in the other stuff I get full a lot quicker. If I start by eating the junk then I never get full. The other thing I do is meet with my dieticians every single month. My program offers appointment with them any time free of charge and I have just gotten in the habit of going every month. Some months we don't have a lot to talk about but just having that check-in forces me to at least halfway stay on track - because I know they will be asking :) If you can't do that then maybe in person support groups if your program has that. Just something to help bring the focus back every so often. I honestly didn't understand when people talked about the "honeymoon phase" at first but now I get it! It was so easy for the first year!!!

No shame in recognising old behaviors. I think many of us have found out that we can tolerate almost anything. It's pretty easy to get in extra calories. Over the years, I have lost some of the motivation and discipline. The days of rapid weight loss is gone. I'm missing the high from the honeymoon phase.

I have a different type of surgery but, I can relate. I freaked out a bit when I saw my first gain. Let the fear of spinning out of control work in your favor to keep you maintaining your weight;). My experience with maintaining seems to be chasing 10 pounds up and down the scale the last 3 years.

It can be unnerving when you gain.

I'm 15 months post op and had been stalled at the same weight, within 2 pounds, for 2 months and then I bounced up 6 pounds over the last month. I know it's my own bad habits; snacking to much, eating to late in the evening and not hitting the gym like I should be. I had my Gallbladder out 2/16/18 and I let myself go a bit after that so I have to refocus myself.

It's good to recognize it and grab back a hold of your journey though. My NUT and Surgeon both said the scales will fluctuate but anything over 5 pounds they consider a gain. I started back at the gym this week after almost a month hiatus and have been trying to make better food choices. I've lost 2 pounds this week so I'm still up 4 pounds from my lowest weight but at least I'm moving in the right direction again.

I'm also going back to support groups because I realize I really need the encouragement of people in the same position I am.

I have found that when I think I want to snack that I really am just thirsty. Maybe try drinking some Water before eating. Cant hurt might help.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
