Getting back into solids.

Recommended Posts

Is anybody else starting to eat solid foods again?

It's wierd, but I'm almost scared to eat solids because I'm afraid it will get stuck, even though I have no restriction.

I'm due to get my first fill 11/6. I've definitely been getting hungry, but I notice that I've been eating a little bit less at my meals.

I am starting solids on Saturday and I am a little scared too. First of all I really don't know what is good and what is bad. I have an instruction book, but that doesn't give me much comfort. I want to stay in my mushy comfort zone forever, but alas we must move forward. I am not too worried about gaining weight, because I will just increase my exercise to compensate. Also I will expect to gain during this time. I will start losing when the fills start, that is the big key to the success of the band, right?

You know what I'm finding frustrating? How much stuff out there is "bready". Italian restaurants - pizza, heros, rolls, etc - all the stuff I like. I'm done with fast food, except for my Wendy's chili. Chinese and Japanese have rice - chinese fried rice worked ok before my fill, don't know how it will work later.

It's so much easier to eat mushies. But, I guess if we don't progress to solids, we'll have problems keeping food above the band and feeling full longer.

I have the same fear. I started solids yesterday and so far I have eaten a half a chicken breast for lunch and another half for dinner. My other meals are my old reliables - yogurt and hummus.

I have to say, the chicken felt no different and was actually very filling. I was at a restaurant for a business dinner last night and caused quite a stir that I didnt clean my plate as normal and did not request a doggie bag, oh well. It was actually a waste of food but I knew that if I brought it home it could be trouble.

I was able to move to soft foods last week, and I was so afraid. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one! I'm still afraid to try chicken breasts, but I have had some thinly sliced deli turkey breast, and that has gone down easily without a problem. I'm chewing a lot, and so far, I've managed to avoid any painful episodes.

I am suppose to be starting solids tomorrow and I don't think I can do it! No kidding. I think I am going to stay on mushies for a few more weeks, and see how it goes. I now have a fear of chewing and swallowing, hmmmm?

I wish I was afraid of eating solids. Once I tried them, and found out that everything slid down just fine = as though I'd never had surgery...... it's been a struggle. I'd rather be afraid again. I can't wait for a fill so I'll have a reason to be afraid. Right now it's just like dieting - some days I "do" and some day's I say "who cares?" I know..... patience, patience.......

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
