Banded on 1-3-05

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone

My name is Shaz. I've only known about the sight since my surgery on 1-3-05. I was one of the fortunate ones whose insurance company paid for the procedure (United Health Care). My initial weight was 235 and having a small bone structure, I have experienced several health challenges as a result. As of one week ago I have already released 18 lbs (smile). This seems to be going well!

I had my surgery at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. It was done by Dr. Rasponte who is a very patient, thorough and experienced doctor. I came home the next day and only had to use a pain killer (liquid tylenol) twice. I am now almost two weeks postop and I feel great. I think this is one of the best moves I've ever made!

This is a wonderful web site, the best I've found. I plan to take part in some of the social events as well.

Thank you for all of the useful information. It's been very helpful to me. This is TRULY a support group!!!!

Shaz

Congratulations! How tall are you? I'm small-boned, also. So I know that weight is so hard on your bones and joints! You won't regret this one bit!

I'm 5'7.5" and I am experiencing severe knee disease. I look forward to the day when I will get relief from this as well as other discomforts. Thank all of you for your warm welcome.

Shaz, our very own Bush Baby (Rica) got her band last June because she was looking at double knee replacements. Now 50 pounds lighter, she's doing great. If you do a search, you can find her thread showing her before and after pics. Of course, she was gorgeous before her weight loss! If you pm her, I bet she could give you some good info.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
