Two days out and in pain - normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I had surgery on Monday. I had so much pain from the gas, I thought it would never end. Now it’s two days later and I have chest pain when I swallow and stomach pain/soreness when I get out of bed. I been following liquid and Protein intake instructions. I’m seeing MD tomorrow. Might it just be heartburn?

First of all....congratulations on your journey!!

Now.....are you walking? Best thing you can do for gas pain. I am 6 days out and have set my phone alarm to remind me to get up and walk!!

Yes, very very normal!

It will slowly lessen each day and eventually disappear. It took me a few weeks.

Hang in there!

Thanks. Yeah. I’m walking regularly. So much so that I went To to a museum here in Dallas today...

Just like what has been stated it is normal to have gas pains several days out. I was having them up until about 4-5 days out. If you are having second thoughts then please talk to your Dr at your appointment just to be on the safe side. It may not be gas pain and it is better to be safe than sorry! I know my surgeon pretty much told us to call anytime and there was no question that was a dumb question!

the gas is honestly way worse pain that the stomach pain. try using heating pads where it hurts.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
